Government is funding non-profit organisations at an unprecedented rate.  Never before have NPOs been able to receive as much money from all three tiers of government. Applying to government departments for funding is no longer merely the domain of the bookkeeper or social worker, with the patience to plough through bureaucratic forms and log frames or record endless statistics. Today, government is being recognised as another important funding source for fundraisers to plan into their resource mobilisation plans and to approach in a formal and systematic manner. This course will introduce delegates to fundraising from government and offer an understanding of national priorities, provincial government budgets as well as guidance on applying for local (municipal) funds.

Using actual provincial and local government application forms as working examples, participants will be guided in the important components of such an application. Log frames – followed by government departments and disliked by most fundraisers who are daunted by them – will be explained, a proposal suitable for government summarised and basic monitoring and evaluation tools introduced. The all important issues of monitoring when to apply as well as  growing relationships with government department staff members, will also be covered, as will the often daunting process of presenting a service plan to an official panel.
